Such bands would definitely be Secrets of the Moon, Lunar Aurora, Graven, Vargsang, Sun of the Sleepless, Nachtmahr… And definitely also Helrunar, whose music I just worship — and you must know that I think of this band as one of the very best black metal bands around at the moment! What catapults HELRUNAR into the upper-echelon of the genre is not only the trio's penchant for crafting and arranging a memorable tune, but also the manner in which the album flows gives the impression that "Baldr Ok Iss" is much more of a neo-mythological tale than it is a series of speed-addled riffs split up by melodious, acoustic interludes. It is never entirely sure whether this album was supposed to be a true folk metal album or a black metal album. It was an amazing experience, believe me. The album closer, Baldrs Drumar is a simple tune, that is just the sound of a strong passing wind, and the voice of a distant Skald, singing into the storm.

Slowly the song regresses back into it's more melodic state and finishes with the epic riff it opened with.

When you hear the song Winterthe first thing that will come to mind is Ulver and Kveldssanger. It never feels quite right and the separate elements never really merge into one big whole, which is a big shame.

I understand that Skald Draugir feels more comfortable, when writing his lyrics in his native language, but when we deal with such a deeply constructed and presented concept, where every song is another chapter, then it is also very important to read the story, along with the music in this case, it is a concept about the Baldr or Baldur.

Luckily, hidden gems like Helrunar exist throughout the helruunar though, acting as a beacon of hope to those who may of lost hope.

It's not often isz find a masterpiece within the genre of Black Metal these days. The first thing that can be seen from the packaging balvr this album is that both the artwork with its natural and organic colours and the song titles again glorify nature in its different aspects. The vocals are mainly your typical black metal screeches, though there are some clean vocals in the songs here and there which add to the feeling of this album being a folk or pagan metal album.

The verse is wholly tremolo picked riff, with mile-a-minute drums and gives off the o of mystical land far away, where the cold never ceases. What lowers bsldr grade heleunar this album is that there is always a sense of incoherence. While their full-length debut the band had previously released a demo and a split with NACHTMAHR"Frostnatch"served them well to the global community, the chilling intensity and morose musicality of "Baldr Ok Iss" is bound to increase their credibility tenfold.

This makes the album seem incoherent and it is distracting.

The song employs tempo changes, key changes, basically everything essential to make an interesting and inspiring piece of music. Once again balxr hear the acoustic version in a short interlude, but instead of staying on the melodic course, it transforms into a classic Darkthrone styled tremolo picked guitar riff, complete with blast beats and clean vocals.

This is something that makes the band so unique and so great. With a dynamic roster that can appease the appetites of fans from everything to experimental dementia to dark indie music, Prophecy has something for everyone, but if high-caliber blackened brutality is your bag, then HELRUNAR is your band.
